Itacho Sushi TV Commercial Draws Fire

Sex sells. And maybe this is one thought a television commercial for a Japanese restaurants should look like. Apparently, sex and Japanese restaurants doesn't fit in one sentence. Or at least in the advertisement of Itacho Sushi Japanese restaurant.

Look at this ad. You may have seen this on television, or at the infamous bus TVs.



After looking at the video advertisement, do you think it's indecent enough or local people are overly sensitive? That's because this ad generated almost 200 complaints that said the ad was unsuitable. The Broadcasting Authority has since upheld the complaint.

I have seen the ad and found nothing too offensive. But the worst part of it is that I didn't even realize the ad was for the Itacho sushi. Ads were rendered in Cantonese and my mind can only recall three things: the boy, the burger and the beautiful lady.

Why was there a need to prominently display cleavage when it's the food that she should be serving? Maybe to tease the boy who simply ignored her and took the sushi instead? I was told she was a waitress but for the record, no waitress wears that attire. Otherwise, Hong Kong men would be flocking from everywhere.

Itacho Sushi's ad has to be taken off. There are definitely better ways to be creative, especially for a delicious Japanese food company.
