Elmer's Life in Hong Kong

Job Layoffs at TVB

The question has been answered. Television Broadcasts (TVB) trimmed its workforce by more than 200 employees across all ranks and departments, with the production department having the greatest number of affected workers. Tenure at work didn't seem to provide security as employees connected with the company for 30 years were not spared by the latest job cut.

I wonder who among the reporters at News at Seven Thirty was affected.

Rival ATV has made job cuts weeks ago.

The layoffs come as part of the financial crisis that prompted TVB to freeze its rate cards to continue to attract advertisers. The company has been recording profits for the past five years and the interim profit for the year was around HK$500 million. But as with many businesses, layoff has always been a quick way to cut costs.
